City of Fort Collins Home Buyer Assistance Program offering $15,000 deferred down payment loan

In an effort to assist more households with achieving their dreams of home ownership, the City has increased funding available in the Home Buyer Assistance Program to a maximum of $15,000 per household, up from $10,000.

The City of Fort Collins Home Buyer Assistance Program was created to assist low and moderate-income first-time homebuyers with the gap financing needed to purchase a home. Income-eligible households can receive a deferred loan to cover downpayment and closing costs, which does not have to be repaid until the home is sold or no longer the primary residence. Since 1996, more than 1,100 Fort Collins households have purchased homes with this assistance.

Eligible households cannot earn more than 80 percent of the area median income and must contribute 1 percent of the purchase price with their own funds. All applicants must complete a certified homebuyers’ education class prior to approval. Additional program guidelines and restrictions can be found at www.fcgov.com/socialsustainability.
