Donnelly will seek re-election to Larimer County Board of County Commissioners

Larimer County Commissioner Tom Donnelly announced Feb. 3 that he will seek re-election to the Board of County Commissioners in 2012.

Donnelly was first elected District 3 Commissioner in 2008. Commissioners must live in the district they represent but are elected countywide. District 3 is the southernmost district in Larimer County and includes the municipalities of Loveland, Berthoud, Estes Park, and portions of Windsor and Johnstown.

“The most difficult challenge county government will face will be providing critical services to citizens with limited funding,” Donnelly said. “We trimmed the property tax component of the County general fund by 8 percent allowing ‘rainy-day’ reserves to grow to $20 million, over a 300 percent increase in just three years. We must continue responsible budgeting.”

Donnelly said his priorities will continue to be fiscal responsibility, common-sense application of county land-use regulations to preserve and protect existing county businesses, and to continue working with the board and other county elected officials for the benefit of citizens.

“Petty bickering has no place in government. The people elected us to do the public’s business effectively and work together to solve problems,” Donnelly added.

Donnelly is Larimer County’s representative to the North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization and serves as the MPO’s chairman. He is the MPO representative to the Statewide Transportation Advisory Committee which provides advice to the Colorado Department of Transportation on the needs of the transportation system in Colorado. Donnelly also represents Larimer County on the Upper Front Range Transportation Planning Region Executive Committee.

A professional land surveyor, Donnelly previously served as the elected County Surveyor. He also served on the city of Loveland Planning Commission and participated in many civic groups from the Professional Land Surveyors of Colorado to Habitat for Humanity and Cub Scouts.

Tom and his wife Lexy have been married for 13 years and have four children. They reside in Loveland.
