Elder Abuse Forum at Fort Collins Senior Center Oct. 22

“Make it Stop: Elder Abuse Forum” will be held on Monday, Oct. 22, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Fort Collins Senior Center, 1200 Raintree Drive. The meeting is designed to raise awareness of elder abuse, to engage a speakers’ panel to highlight the latest developments around the issue, and to provide community roundtable discussions facilitated by Colorado State University’s Center for Public Deliberation.

AARP Elder Watch, Adult Protection Services, Colorado Coalition for Elder Rights and Abuse Prevention and other agencies will be on hand to provide information as well as answer questions.

According to the National Center on Elder Abuse, Bureau of Justice, 5.9 million elderly Americans were abused in 2010, and the National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse estimates that 84 percent of elder abuse cases are not reported.

The Fort Collins Human Relations Commission, the Commission on Disability, the Senior Advisory Board, the Senior Center Council, the Women’s Commission, the Youth Advisory Board and the Larimer County Office on Aging are sponsoring this free forum. Admission includes light dinner and refreshments; registration is limited and available online.
