Flood-damaged Storm Mountain Road to be repaired; expect delays

Storm Mountain Road (Forest Service Road 128), also referred to as Cedar Park Road, received damage from the September 2013 flood. Emergency repairs were made to allow access to residents in the area, but more permanent repairs are needed beginning as soon as Aug. 3.

The Forest Service is coordinating with Larimer County and Federal Highways – Central Federal Lands Highway Division to complete this work. The repairs are on approximately one mile of road, beginning 0.7 miles from FSR128’s intersection with County Road 43. The repair work includes embankment repair, drainage repair and replacement, slope stabilization and road grading.

The repair work will require multiple hour delays to traffic on the road Monday through Friday during August. Two hour closures should be expected between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Hour long delays can be expected from 4 to 8 p.m. when work takes place past 4 p.m. All cooperators understand this is an imposition to residents and guests; however, these delays are necessary to expedite the work needed to improve this roadway. In some rare instances, four-hour closures may be necessary. Notification of these longer closures will be announced ahead of time. Minimizing traffic during these times will also aid in the completion of this project.

Emergency responders for the Storm Mountain area are developing an action plan to address access during closures.
