Harvest Farm celebrates the season

October is a big month for Harvest Farm north of Wellington as they celebrate fall with a month-long-festival featuring a corn maze, obstacle course for young kids, target shooting with an air powered corn cannon and a 5k running race open to the community. There’s also a hay bale maze, pig races, hay wagon rides, a petting zoo, roping arena, pumpkin smash, duck races, evening campfires and a barrel train for kids.

The festival continued Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during the first four weekends of the month, closing on October 26. Harvest Farm executive director Duncan Shaw expressed pleasure at the turnout for the twelfth annual festival. “We kept prices the same as last year and included all activities in a single fee,” he explained. He added that the beautiful fall weather drew good crowds to the festival.

“About 50 runners participated in the 5k race on the scenic 209-acre farm,” Shaw said. The corn cannon proved the most popular attraction for adults while kids loved the obstacle course.

The working farm and rehabilitation center, operated by the Denver Rescue Mission, assists men seeking to break cycles of addiction and homelessness.

Harvest Farm offers produce shares as part of their Community Supported Agriculture program. For information about signing up for the 2015 season, contact Kelly at KBallantine@DenRescue.org or call 720-371-8415.
