It's not quite spring, but you can see it in Wellington Public Library books

Hold on to your library books. March is coming in like a lion.

As a reminder, Christmas lights should be down by now. Tumbleweeds have a tendency to get caught in them. I live in town and the other day I had tumbleweeds rolling across my yard. I always wanted to stick a note in one of them and see how far it would travel. Would someone in Texas find it in 2 days?

My dad always claimed all tumbleweeds eventually ended up in his fence rows. I’m sure all farmers/ranchers feel that way. I find this time of year very frustrating. When we have those really nice days I’m anxious to start in on the yard, and plant some pretty flowers. It’s all I can do to stay out of the plant nurseries.

Last year I jumped the gun and had to haul my planter boxes in and out of the house for weeks. So I guess I’ll quench my thirst for greenery by doing some spring displays and gardening books displays. The library would also like to invite you gardeners to sign your yard up for our, “Wellington Garden Party Tour.” You can register your yard to be put on our tour map. During the summer people can use the map to locate yards of special interest in our town. The library will also conduct walking tours during the summer months. Even if you don’t live in town you can participate in our ongoing display of pictures of your gardening success stories.

We will also be setting up bird feeders and bird houses that attach to the windows so the children can enjoy watching baby birds hatching and growing. We will be using these projects as part of our summer reading program. So as you can see it may not quite be spring, but we can see it from here.

March Storytimes are the 11th and the 25th at 11 a.m. If you have never been to our Storytime we read two or more books and then we have a fun craft for the children. It’s alot of fun and the children seem to enjoy interacting with each other, hopefully establishing friendships that make the transition to school easier.

The WPL Book Club will meet March 27th at 7 p.m. at the library. Copies of the selected book are available at the library. See you at the library!
