More of Glacier View evacuated overnight

Around 11 p.m. Thursday, fire officials issued an immediate evacuation order for about 200 residents in the 9th 0th, and 11th filings of Glacier View Meadows, including the area west from Eiger Road to Rams Horn Mountain Road and north from the Mount Blanc Guardian Peak area to the north end of Mount Everest Drive. Earlier in the day 80 residences along Many Thunders Road and south into the 12th Filing of Glacier View were evacuated.

The remaining portions of Glacier View Meadows remain on pre-evacuation alert and residents should be prepared to leave if necessary.

The orders came after downdrafts from a thunderstorm cell parked over the southwest corner of the fire near Steven’s Gulch launched embers that caused a spot fire on the north side of Poudre Canyon. Firefighters were working to contain that spot fire, which was estimated at between 60 and 100 acres last night, and will continue to focus on that Friday, according to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Department.

A total of 48 homeowners have been notified that their homes have been destroyed by the High Park Fire — 31 homeowners from the Stratton Park and Pine Acres area, and 17 from Stove Prairie to the mouth of Poudre Canyon. As the structure assessment continues, this number will continue to grow. Homeowners are informed of the results of the assessment at the daily 3 p.m. citizens’ briefing at The Ranch in Loveland.

Residents who cannot attend these meetings can obtain information regarding the status of their property by calling 970-619-4086. Phones will be staffed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and messages can be left after hours.

Larimer County’s High Park Fire Disaster Recovery Center is now open at Johnson Hall on the Colorado State University Campus. The center will be open Monday through Fri. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for three to four weeks. More information about the Disaster Recovery Center is available at www.larimer.org.
