Name the park contest

It won’t be long until Wellington’s long-anticipated park adjacent to the Buffalo Creek housing development has a name.

Park committee member Lorilyn Borchardt has been compiling suggestions sent to her via mail and email. She’s been pleased with the response to the naming contest and reports that names suggested have ranged from serious and thoughtful to whimsical. “People have given lots of thought to their entries,” she said.

Deadline for entries was Nov. 20. The Park Committee whittled down the suggestions to four and presented their choices to the board of trustees Nov. 26 for a final decision.

The four park names forwarded to the trustees were:

• Byron “Whizzer” White Park
• Wellington Community Park
• Buffalo Creek Park
• Bearfoot Park
