New Fire Station 4 a fine success

The decorative cake said it all: Congratulations RCVFD.

After three long years of set-backs and struggle, Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department Fire Station 4 – destroyed during the High Park Fire in June 2012 – is back in service. On Oct. 13, a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held near the summit of the Whale Rock subdivision, where 90 percent of the homes were destroyed by the fire.

Thanks, especially, went to FCI Constructors Inc. and its superintendent, Ed Nation. In recognition of Nation’s tireless dedication and work in rebuilding Station 4, RCVFD Fire Chief Bob Gann designated Nation as an Honorary Fire Fighter (RC462). Gann also recognized RCVFD Board Member Jordy Levick for his devotion and effort on the project.

“There was no safe place in Whale Rock to fight the [High Park] fire,” Gann said. “To save homes, we need to be there within minutes. This station gives firefighters a safe place from which to operate.”

About a dozen RCVFD firefighters were on hand for the dedication as well as RCVFD board members and company representatives. In addition to FCI Constructors, the Rocky Mountain Masonry Institute and executive director Bret Terry were instrumental in the rebuilding.

RCVFD received numerous donations of time, labor and materials for Station 4.
