Obituary: Catherine Allison Roberts

Catherine Allison Roberts, age 95, passed away Dec. 31 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Catherine has been a pillar of the Livermore community for 72 years. Born in North Carolina, she and James Evan Roberts were married in 1943 so she became a part of the Roberts ranching family that homesteaded in Livermore in 1874.

She was an active member of the Livermore Women’s Club since her since her arrival here and taught school in Livermore, Owl Canyon and Cherokee Park.

She was a noted historian and was often asked for information from her extensive collection of historic clippings and memorabilia. She and her husband, Evan, had a particular interest in the preservation of the Roberts ranch.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her four younger brothers. She is survived by her stepson David Lee Roberts of Livermore and his two sons Burke Evan Roberts and Benjamin Lee Sterling Roberts who are all working to achieve Catherine and Evan’s dream of preserving the family’s working cattle ranch as the Roberts family has for 142 years.

Catherine asked David and his sons for help in placing conservation easements on the entire Roberts ranch and that has now been accomplished. The family has a plan underway to get the land into a trust in perpetuity.

Catherine was a charming woman who cared about everyone she knew and they in turn loved her. She will be missed.

A memorial service is planned on Jan. 16 at 11 a.m. at the Livermore Community Church.
