Obituary: Kathryn (Kate) Dugdale

Kathryn “Kate” Dugdale, age 82, Passed away Oct. 4, 2014, at Poudre Valley Hospital. Kate was born in Mapleton, Iowa, to Ted and Mable Mann on March 7, 1932. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her brother Russell (Sharon) Mann; nieces Marcia (Don) Burkhardt and Gretchen (Andrew) Nixon; daughter Kay Steinbock; son Erik (Anna) Dugdale; and four grandchildren, Ashley Steinbock of Wellington, Logan and Melanie Dugdale of Fremont, Calif., and Dustie Nebelsick of Fort Collins.

Kate was known as Kathy in her younger years. She changed her name to Kate when she began her position as director of nursing in Missouri Valley, Iowa where her officemate was also Cathy. She became Kate to all who met her after that.

She was an registered nurse with a bachelor’s degree in science, graduating in 1972. Kate retired from Ketchican, Alaska, as director of nursing in 1996 to Colorado to be close to family. As a nurse, Kate worked in a private office and hospitals in Iowa, Nebraska and Alaska.

She loved her work and appreciated everything that went into it. Her final request was to have her body donated so that others could learn from her.

  1. My condolences to Kay and to Eric. I remember so fondly the many times we all got together in Missouri Valley. Kati was so special to me, a mentor and a special special friend. I was so glad I got to see her on her last trip back this way a few years ago. Love and prayers for you all.
