Lola C. Barrett passed away peacefully on Oct. 22, 2011, at Spring Creek Nursing Home in Fort Collins at 84 years of age.
Lola was born on June 23, 1927, in Cope, Colo. She went to school in Loveland and then taught school in Yuma. She met Charles Earl Barrett at a party. They were married on Sept. 18, 1949 in Conifer.
Lola is survived by her three children, Maureen C. Barrett, Charles Earl Barrett, Jr., and Edward Andrew Barrett. She is also survived by two grandsons and three great-grandchildren. She also has many nieces and nephews and a close friend, Heidi Barrett. Lola’s husband predeceased her in death.
Lola loved people and made friends easily. The homeless knew there was always a free meal at Lola’s house. She helped raise her two grandsons, along with her many other occupations, among which was being a Tupperware lady, a demo lady at stores, and working at the Colorado State University Nursery.
In 1968, she and her husband bought a farm by LaPorte, where they raised livestock. Lola not only milked her cows, but also the cows of her neighbor. In 1994, she started raising emus at her farm and became quite the emu oil saleswoman.
A memorial service was held at the Church of Latter-Day Saints, 1400 Lynnwood Drive, Fort Collins, on Thursday, Nov. 3.
