When Marty was 2-years old, the family moved to Colorado. After the war the family moved all over Wyoming, Colorado and Utah while his father performed civil engineering and construction work for oil exploration companies. Around 1954 the family moved to Fort Morgan where Marty graduated from Fort Morgan High School in the class of 1961. After graduation, he entered the Naval Training Program, which he completed. Following retirement he turned his full attention to the operation of his ranch, spent some time traveling, operating his gold claim in Wyoming as well as hunting and fishing. His travels included a trip to Belize with his sister, a trip to Hawaii and he spent a month driving to and exploring Alaska with Ms. Applegate. Marty was a very attentive son and visited his mother Ann DuBois Katzenbarger regularly.
