Poudre School District offers suicide prevention training

Poudre School District is offering fall sessions at three high schools to adults who wish to learn more about suicide prevention. Parents and guardians of students attending Fort Collins High School will have the opportunity to attend this 90-minute “Question, Persuade and Refer Method” training session 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Fort Collins High School Media Center, 3400 Lambkin Way.

Participants will learn how to listen for and identify at least three warning signs of suicide, how to ask someone about their potential suicide intent, and how to assist a person at risk of suicide. Additionally, attendees at the session will learn myths and facts related to this critical national and local public health concern.

The QPR speaker will be either Mental Health Coordinator Melanie Voegeli-Morris or another of the PSD Mental Health Team members.

While there is no charge to attend, pre-registration is required no later than Oct. 3. Please contact Betty Englert Backlund at 970-490-3264 for registration details. If space is available, other interested adults who work with children are welcome to attend.
