Red Feather Lakes Community Library update for June, 2013

Red Feather Lakes Community Library has been awarded a 2013 Libri Foundation grant that has placed 66 brand new books — geared for preschoolers into middle school — on the shelf just in time for our annual Summer Reading Program kickoff. The books are here now and take up the bulk of our Junior New Shelf display. You’re invited to stop by and check them out – literally. There’s some great fiction and nonfiction reads (as well as picture books) for younger folk. Through the next several months we’ll use this column to highlight many of the titles received.

By Creed Kidd, Library Director

The Libri Foundation itself is a national nonprofit that donates new, hardbound children’s books to small (often rural) libraries through their “Books for Children” program. The intent is to provide titles for libraries that would otherwise find it difficult to purchase books in this quantity for this audience. You can find more information at www.librifoundation.org or the library webpage at http://redfeatherlibrary.org.

Many thanks as well to the Library’s Friends group that provided sufficient matching funds to make this grant possible.

We’re also pleased to announce that the Red Feather Read Committee has met and selected local writer Carol Strazer’s new book, “Barbed Wire and Daisies” as the 2013 read. The Read Community event will be held Aug. 24 in the area POA Building. Copies of this inspirational family/adventure tale can be purchased from the author, bookstores and local stores, online in print and e-book format as well as borrowed from the library.

Need an extra daily hour at the library this summer? You’ve got it. Open hours now through mid-September are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
