Red Feather Lakes Library update for Oct. 2016

Continuing what’s becoming a tradition, RFL Community Library will be doing a haunted Red Feather Lakes Halloween Party, Zombie Scavenger Hunt, Haunted House and Trunk-or-Treat starting at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29. Mark your calendars, please.

For those participating in the Zombie Hunt, we recommend coming at 2:30-ish in order to get one’s anti-zombie potions ready. That’s pretty important. Beginning at 3 p.m., participants — kindergarten age and up — will form teams to scavenger hunt for clues that will allow them to convert our resident Red Feather zombies back into humans, thus, righting a great wrong. For those who dare, the scavenger hunt incorporates a visit to the Haunted House and local businesses as well.

By Creed Kidd, Library Director

Without giving too much away, there have been reports of Haunted House skeletons, rubber snakes, cloth coffins and eerie images both on walls and in the sky. The Haunted House will be centered again in the RFL Community Association Youth Building (adjoining the POA). Our thanks to the Community Association for assisting. Details aren’t finalized yet, but will be posted through the library’s website at redfeatherlibrary.org, the NextDoor social media site, and through the library’s periodic announcement list. For more information, please contact Haunted House hostess Jeanette Heath at 970-881-2664 or jeanette@redfeatherlibrary.org — if you dare.

There also are appropriate Halloween activities for preschoolers (as well as the faint of heart), including an eyeball bounce, pin the nose on the witch, decorate your cookie, paint a bat, and more — all held at the POA building just to the north of the library. Beginning at 3 p.m.

There are also reports — probably spurious — that Superman will stop (or at least slow) a speeding locomotive at the intersection of Lemay and Riverside avenues down in Fort Collins. But, as that happens daily without super-assistance we don’t assign much credibility to that rumor.

Trunk-or-Treat, open to all children, begins at 4 p.m. at the library and POA parking lot and continues until 5 p.m. or otherwise until all treats are distributed. Community members are encouraged to participate. The creativity and ingenuity of last year’s Trunkers was outstanding. Appropriate goodies, please. And, with ghouls and goblins of all ages traversing the area on foot, please keep a sharp lookout while driving or parking.

Otherwise, our congratulations to staff member Darlene Kilpatrick who has been selected by the Colorado Association of Libraries for the 2016 Unsung Hero award.
