Science guy, ballerina, bubble lady headline Wellington library summer programs

RU Curious? Of course you are and while curiosity might be a cat killer, it’s one of mankind’s best qualities.

The Wellington Public Library wants to spark that curiosity and creativity into a lot of fun and learning with our summer reading program. This year’s program is “Fizz, Boom, Read.” Registration for the program begins June 2 and can be done at the library or online at the library website.

Reading logs must be picked up at the library. The reading log is necessary to claim prizes. The first prize giveaway begins on June 30 and the second prize giveaway begins on July 28. Prizes can be claimed throughout the duration of the program.

Wellington Middle School students will definitely want to participate in our First Choice Locker Program. The bookmark book reports are available at the library when registering for the program. With an emphasis on the sciences, this year’s programs are both fun and educational.

Our first event this summer is “Dancing with Lydia,” on June 3 at 10:30 a.m. Lydia is a trained ballerina, who will teach us dancing techniques and form. We will have tutus available so come get your tutus on! July 1 at 10:30 a.m. come join in the fun of “The Space Alien’s Big Bang Magic and Juggling Show!” by Ann Lincoln. Who else but Lincoln would put this much fun into one show? If you didn’t come last year, make plans to come this summer. She is true entertainment for all ages.

Ever wanted to be inside a bubble, or put your sibling in a bubble? Come to the library and learn the science behind bubbles on July 15 at 10 a.m. with Nancy Winkler a.k.a. The Bubble Lady. For a finale to our events, on July 29 at 10:30 a.m. Gary Raham will rev up our brains with science. Raham will share his knowledge about dinosaurs and this region’s geology. Could you be walking where dinosaurs and prehistoric animals have walked? And what was this region like long ago before we were here? Gary will answer these and many more questions.

The Wellington Public Library’s Summer Reading Program is designed to keep kids’ reading skills from slipping over the summer. Summer is upon us, so whereever you are off to this summer; don’t forget your reading skills. WPL Bookclub will meet June 5 at 7 p.m. to discuss “The Light Between Oceans”’ by M.L. Stedman. Storytimes for June are the 10th (Father’s Day craft) and the 24th (Moon and Stars craft). Come join us at 11 a.m. for these fun parent and child activities.
