Free suicide prevention training is being offered to parents of students in the Poudre School District, including a session at Wellington Middle School on May 1.
The 90-minute QPR (Question, Persuade and Refer) training will discuss warning signs of suicide, intervention skills and referral resources in the community. Participants will learn how to recognize at least three warning signs of suicide, how to ask someone about their potential suicide intent, how to listen, and skills to assist a person at risk of suicide. Myths and facts about suicide and suicide as a national and local public health concern also will be covered.
The same training will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on three different days at three different locations. Class size will be limited, so parents must preregister by the deadline noted:
• Wednesday, April 25, in the media center at Fort Collins High School, 3400 Lambkin Way (preregister by April 23).
• Tuesday, May 1, at Wellington Middle School, 4001 Wilson Ave. (preregister by April 27).
• Wednesday, May 2, at Rocky Mountain High School, 1300 W. Swallow (preregister by April 30).
