SunDaze shines on Bellvue Saturday

Bellvue invites all its neighbors to celebrate the community’s 124th birthday on Saturday, Aug. 27.

Bellvue SunDaze is will be from noon to 7 p.m. It will feature local music, food, a cake walks, silent auction and historic games.

Adult admission is $5 and free for children. Proceeds will go toward preserving and restoring the historic Grange Hall 456.

“The grange really is the center of this town,” said Lisa Maser of the Bellvue Historical Foundation, which is sponsoring the event.

In addition to supporting the grange restoration, Maser said the SunDaze is aimed at developing a consensus about establishing the first rural historic district in Colorado.

Toward that end, historian Steve Sladek at 1 p.m. will discuss the next steps required to pursue such a designation. Retired LaPorte teacher Stephen Schell at 3 p.m. will offer a presentation on explorer John C. Freemont’s travels through the area.

“The number one goal of this event is to get people to meet their neighbors,” said Maser.
