Wellington Public Library update for Dec. 2013

Libraries are becoming more of an interactive experience with areas for people to work on projects together. With our wireless Internet access, more people are bringing in their laptop and working on site. The library is a social gathering area, but it will never lose its identity as a place of knowledge and entertainment. It’s just coming at you from a variety of different ways, be it computer, e-books and of course books.

People have asked us if electronic books will be the demise of libraries. I believe e-books are just part of an ever evolving library system. Books will never go away or out of style. They hold too much value to our society. It’s one of life’s simple pleasures to pick out a book, whether you are 1, 10 or 100.

Thanks to this community’s generosity, The Wellington Library Friends will soon be opening a used book store across from the library entry way. We will be making some changes to your library so please stop in and let us know how we are doing.

We hope to see you all at the Library Lights Tree Lighting at 7 p.m. Friday Dec. 6. Besides getting to see one of the largest trees in Wellington aglow with colorful old fashioned lights, the seniors will be serving cookies and cocoa and giving books to children up to the 8th grade.

On Saturday Dec. 7, there will be a bazaar at the Senior Center from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Any books left over from the tree lighting will be available at the bazaar. Drop into the library the week of Dec. 16 to make an ornament, and on Dec. 18 we dare you to wear your most creative Christmas sweater to the library. The staff will be adorned in our own versions of Christmas gone bad.

Storytimes for the month are 11 a.m. Dec. 10 and 17. Please join us to enjoy reading some holiday books and make a fun craft.

On Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. the WPL Bookclub will meet to discuss “Jane Eyre” by Charlotte Bronte. The Wellington Library Friends upcoming meetings are Dec. 2 and Jan. 6 at 4:15 p.m. The library will be closing at 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve Dec. 24 and will be closed Christmas Day Dec. 25. We will also close early New Year’s Eve Dec. 31 at 3 p.m. and be closed New Year’s Day.

Happiest of holidays to everyone.
