Wellington Public Library update for Nov. 2013

Hello Northern Colorado. If you have never been to our library now would be a great time to come see what we are all about. It’s easy for people who use the library regularly to forget that some people have not been in a library since they were in school.

If it’s been that long for you, you are in for a surprise. Libraries have changed. Besides the addition of computers, libraries have become more user friendly and busy. We still have quiet corners to read in but many of our events are on the louder side.

We tend to gear a lot of our programing to the pre-readers in hopes of making the library a place they enjoy coming to now and as they get older.

Our Storytime programs which are every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month are meant to familiarize pre-readers with the library and to stimulate their urge to read. It’s a great way to introduce them to the fabulous world of books. So please join us Nov. 12 and 19 at 11 a.m. for Storytime.

During the month of November we will be collecting food for The Wellington Food Bank. Food items can be used to pay for library fines, with each can being worth $1 in fines.

The WPL Book club is meeting on Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. to discuss “Nothing Daunted: The Unexpected Education of Two Society Girls in the West,” by Dorothy Wickenden. This non-fiction book is available at the front desk of the library. The next book club meeting is scheduled for Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. to discuss “Jane Eyre” by English writer Charlotte Brontë.

In honor of Veteran’s Day, the Wellington Public Library Friends are pleased to bring author Teresa Funke to the library on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. Funke is the author of “Dancing in Combat Boots” and “Remember Wake.” Theresa’s historical fiction books capture the World War II era. They are both informative and entertaining. Her young adult books are wonderful for peaking young reader’s interests in the era and are written from different cultural perspectives. Theresa is looking forward to meeting everyone and would especially like to chat with veterans of all ages.

The library will be closed Nov. 11 to honor Veteran’s Day and Nov. 28 thru Dec. 1 for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. We will be open at our usual time on Monday, Dec. 2.
