Wellington Public Library update for Nov. 2014

I spent a lovely day outside on a recent weekend cleaning the yard and winterizing the outside of our house. I was sitting outside winding up the garden hose when I was visited by a ladybug. She was moving slow and, given the fact it is almost the end of October, I was surprised to see a ladybug at all. I’m no insect expert but I assumed most insects were pretty much gone by this time of year. I did see a grasshopper the other day but I don’t count them because I assume they can withstand subarctic temperatures.

I mention this ladybug incident because earlier in the day I was shopping in a store and a ladybug landed on me. So I took this as a sign that the universe was trying to get my attention; so I stopped and watched this ladybug in my garden for awhile. I figured she was on her last leg and then all of a sudden she flew away. Thinking on this awhile I came away with the following analogy: It may be late in the year, but we still have things we would like to do and we should get on with doing them.

This ladybug didn’t know how many days she had; she just knew she had this day. I write this observation not to throw everyone into a tizzy but to make us enjoy each day we are given. This autumn has been so beautiful and the weather so nice… it begs us to get on with it and enjoy.

WIth that, I will get on with this month’s library schedule. Our November storytimes are the 4th and the 18th. On the 4th we will be reading and doing a craft about food. The 18th storytime we will be learning about Thanksgiving and turkeys. Storytimes are at 11 a.m. We had such a great turn out for the October Coloring Contest, we are having a November Coloring Contest. Please come in and get your coloring sheets or color here. We also accept other coloring sheets from home or original art.

Food For Fines is Back!! If you have fines at the library you can pay them off by donating food items. For every can or box of food we will take a dollar off your fine. Bring in your food items from Nov. 1 thru Dec. 31. Donations will go to the Wellington Food Bank.

The Wellington Public Library Book Club is reading “East of Eden”, by John Steinbeck and will meet Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. The library will be closed to honor Veterans Day on Nov. 11. We will be closed November 27,28 & 29 for Thanksgiving.
