Wellington team provides year-round Relay for Life support

Linda Kinzli and Kelly Bole thrive on goals — and competition. Deciding on the goal for their team to take first prize at the Fort Collins Relay for Life set both of them in motion. And succeed they did, along with their team, Wellington Fellowship Warriors. The team raised nearly $8,000 and was awarded the top prize at the 2012 Relay for Life. With this accomplishment under their belts, the team is now gearing up to try again in June.

Relay for Life is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Teams of approximately 15 volunteer members are formed in the early part of each year for the purpose of organizing and promoting fundraising projects. The culminating activity, usually held in June, is the Relay for Life at which time all teams come together to bolster the fight against cancer, celebrate the survivors and to remember victims of cancer.

This year, the event will be held June 1-2 at the Fort Collins High School track at 3400 Lambkin Way in Fort Collins. At the Relay for Life, tents are set up, and teams walk throughout the night to signify that cancer never sleeps. Teams compete for prizes related to the money they raise and for how well their tents are decorated, this year with the theme “Dream Big, Hope Big, Relay Big.”

Relay for Life volunteers, many of whom are cancer survivors, are energized by Wellington Fellowship Warriors’ commitment to the American Cancer Society. As the largest voluntary health organization in the U.S., ACS saves lives by helping people stay well, helping people get well, by searching for cures and by fighting back through legislation.

Two fundraising activities planned by the Wellington Fellowship Warriors are the very popular Zumbathon on April 12, 6 to 9 p.m. at Fort Collins Senior Center Gym, 1200 Raintree Drive in Fort Collins. All ages are welcome. Cost is $15 for adults. A poker tournament is also planned and will be held at the T-Bar Inn in Wellington on May 4 from 1 to 4 p.m.
