California man dies in Poudre River rafting accident

Larimer County Sheriff’s Office received reports about 3 p.m. on July 7 of a rafting accident on the Poudre River near mile marker 110 on Highway 14, approximately 11 miles west U.S. Highway 287.

It was reported there were a total of seven adults in a commercial raft on the river. Three adults fell from the raft and two were quickly located and pulled back in. The third adult, a 76-year-old man from Chico, California, was located a short time later, pulled from the water unresponsive, and CPR was started by those at the scene.

Larimer County Sheriff’s deputies, Emergency Services, Larimer County Dive Rescue, and Poudre Canyon Fire Protection District personnel responded. Deputies took over CPR until Poudre Valley medical personnel arrived. The man was transported to a local hospital, but did not survive. All occupants of the raft were wearing helmets and personal flotation devices.
