Larimer County hosts post‐disaster federal income tax workshop

Larimer County will host United Policyholders for a special presentation aimed at flood survivors called “Post-Disaster Income Tax Workshop.” The session takes place on Tuesday, February 11, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Loveland Senior Center, 700 East 4th Street, Loveland.

United Policyholders, a non-profit consumer organization assisting disaster survivors for over 20 years, presents CPA John Trapani from California who is an expert in federal taxes and disaster losses (including both flood or fire losses). This free educational workshop aims to answer questions on a variety of topics such as: is there a loss or gain?; sell, buy, re-build?; income tax benefits and reporting; documentation; taxes and insurance settlements; cost basis for damaged properties; rules for federally declared disasters and more.

A workshop was presented by the IRS in early 2013 to help answer some of these questions for the High Park Fire Survivors. A video of this presentation is available online as part of the High Park Fire Long Term Recovery section of the Larimer County website at larimer.org.
