By Creed Kidd,
The 2014-2015 Friends membership drive is now running. You’re invited to join like-minded individuals in local community-building through supporting your local library. Annual memberships start at $10 and is not limited to the local area.
Forms for both events are available on the Friends website http://redfeather.colibraries.org/friends-of-the-library.
Upcoming Friends events include book sales the July 4th weekend (July 3, 5, and 6) and during Fire Days over Labor Day weekend.
Don’t miss the Friends’ Fine Arts Gala at The Forks on Thursday, Aug. 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. Artwork for sale will be on display at the library through June and July with a sneak preview scheduled for noon to 7 p.m. June 3, with refreshments served.
Otherwise, the library is sponsoring or co-sponsoring a wide selection of summer activities.
With the Writer’s Group we’ll be co-sponsoring “Smart Self-Publishing” a workshop conducted by freelance writer and consultant Kerrie Flanagan, to be held June 28 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the library. In September we will be co-hosting, with the Writer’s Group, a program on copyright for writers and other interested individuals — how to protect one’s intellectual property and also avoid the pitfalls of using others’ work. Attorney Joanne Hagen and her husband will be conducting two workshops on Sept. 20, scheduled for 1 to 5 p.m.
Pre-registration for both classes is necessary. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 970-881-2664 for more information.
We’ll be with Soaring Eagle Ecology Center at the Kids Free Fishing Day June 7 at West Lake to assist. On June 12, we’ll again partner with SEEC to bring you a microorganism study with Cindy Henk (starting at 9:30 a.m. on SEEC land near Red Feather Lakes Elementary).
Army Sgt. Thomas Collins will be doing a presentation on how technology has changed for the Armed Forces through the years, 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on June 10.
Teen Science week at the library is June 17–21, 1 to 3 p.m. daily. Science games, experiments, art and perhaps even a robot. Contact email@example.com for more information.
Fort Collins Climate Hub, a SEEC/library sponsored program with Marcee Cameson, is scheduled for 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 20.
June 27 we’ll accompany the Red Feather Historical Society on a day hike to Heart Rock. RSVP by June 26.
The library’s 2014 Summer Reading Program continues through June and July, ending Aug. 9. Start anytime — there’s incentive prizes (many donated by local or area merchants) to reward summer recreational reading.
There’s more. To keep up to date we recommend subscribing to our e-mail announcement list (contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org) or check the library events calendar at http://redfeather.colibraries.org/news-events/lib-cal
