Donna Smith, known for her role in Michael Moore’s 2007 documentary “SiCKO,” will be the featured speaker on Wednesday, April 3 at a program hosted by Health Care for All Colorado. The event, free and open to the public, is set for 7 p.m. at Harmony Library in Fort Collins.
Smith, the executive director of Health Care for All Colorado, will address “Forward to Health Care as a Public Good and a Human Right in Colorado.” She is a long-time advocate of single-payer health care. Smith and her husband declared bankruptcy several years ago because of costly medical bills, despite the fact that they had health insurance.
A journalist, Smith has received numerous awards including the Inland Press Association’s top honor in 2006 for community-based journalism.
Smith has spoken in 43 states and the District of Columbia about single-payer health care reform. She has worked for National Nurses United/California Nurses Association, advocating for a single-payer system, and she co-chairs the “Healthcare Not Warfare” campaign for the Progressive Democrats of America.
The April 3 program will also include an update on health care legislation in Colorado.
