The victim, from Blue River, Colo., was reportedly being taken to the shoreline so he could leave. As the boat was backing up to the shore to let him out, the victim jumped from the boat. The boat then backed over the victim causing the lacerations from the boat’s prop. The boat was driven by a 22-year-old Fort Collins man. Alcohol is believed to have been involved.
The Larimer County Department of Natural Resources and the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a joint investigation into the accident. No charges have been filed at this time. Sheriff Justin Smith reminds citizens that excessive alcohol does not mix with boating, tubing or other water activities and encourages people to wear their flotation devices and have the proper equipment for the activity they are engaged in for a safe and fun holiday.
