The magic and mystery of Colorado’s snow-covered nightscape will be revealed to adventurous night-owls during the annual Colorado Parks and Wildlife Full Moon Open House at State Forest State Park, Saturday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 28, beginning at sunset.
State Forest State Park is on Colorado 14, 75 miles west of Fort Collins or 25 miles east of Walden.
This year, participants are encouraged to wear a funny hat to add to the merriment while snowshoeing or cross-country skiing the 6-mile Gould Loop that starts at the park’s Moose Visitor Center.
The park will provide everyone with glow-in-the-dark jewelry and along with the colorful glow-sticks that line the trail, a fun evening under the light of the moon is guaranteed for all.
“What a great family tradition,” said Park Manager Joe Brand. “I look forward to taking my kids on their first full moon snowshoe at State Forest State Park.”
Cookies, hot cocoa and apple cider will be available along the trail at the ‘Chocolate Cabin.’ Bring a warm potluck dish to share back at the Moose Visitor Center.
Participants are reminded to bring all necessary equipment and dress for winter conditions.
