Letter: 2013 was a good year for the Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce

2013 saw a number of significant achievements by the Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce. Membership increased by more than 30 percent, which reflects the growth of business activity in Wellington. There were ribbon cuttings to celebrate the opening of several new businesses. The Chamber entered a float in the July 4th parade, and participated in the Town Treasure Hunt and Harvest Festival. We are particularly proud of the publication of a town map, made possible by the purchase of ad spaces by local businesses. These maps include useful information about the town and its amenities and have been distributed around town and in visitor centers in Fort Collins, Loveland and Cheyenne.

In cooperation with the Wellington Board of Trustees, the Chamber sponsored a contest to select a new town slogan. Over 150 entries were submitted, from which a winner was selected. Wellington is now “Colorado’s Northern Gateway.”

Finally, the Chamber raised $4,040 at our annual meeting to support the Eagles After Hours program at Wellington Middle School. This is a locally developed and managed program that provides enrichment activities after regular school hours, with more than 100 students participating every day.

We look forward to an even brighter 2014, with several new initiatives being planned or already under development.
