Local author pens ‘Surviving Wildfire’ handbook for homeowners

Author and researcher Linda Masterson of Fort Collins, who lost her home in the Crystal Fire in 2011, has written a book to help other homeowners living in the wildland urban interface.

“Surviving Wildfire: Get Prepared, Stay Alive, Rebuild Your Life” is a practical handbook that covers mountain living from risk assessment to firewise building techniques, evacuation essentials to insider tips and tactics for dealing with insurance companies after losing a home to wildfire. It explains what to look for before you build your dream home and precautions to take when living in a high-fire-danger area, as well as what to do during and after a wildfire like those that swept through the area this summer. The 144-page paperback also includes a section of resources with contract numbers and web addressed.
