Baker’s Civil War Sword, by Brian Carroll. Before coming to Fort Collins in 1873, an early settler played an important and unique role during the Civil War.  As a member of Abraham Lincoln’s body guard, the Union Light Guard of Ohio, Frederick R. Baker was a witness to the activities that brought an end to the Civil War as well as to events surrounding the assassination of President Lincoln.  From then until his death in 1906, Baker was a significant figure in the development of the city.  LHS monthly program at the Museum, 5th and Lincoln,  7pm, free, public welcome.  Books will be available for purchase.  Contact for more information.
