The increase will average $3.44 per month for a typical residential consumer using 900 kWh. Specific rate increases will vary based on individual electric usage across rate classes, according to PVREA spokesman Ric Soulen.
The rate increase was driven by a 4.8 percent increase in the cost of power from its wholesale power provider, Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association. That will cost PVREA an additional $3.8 million in 2012.
The last time an increase was passed on to PVREA consumers was in January 2009.
