Wildfire knowledge, safety and mitigation will be the focus of the annual Wildfire Community Preparedness Day, hosted by the Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department, the National Fire Protection Agency and State Farm Insurance.
This free event, which will be held May 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Station 1, 11835 Rist Canyon Road, will include information about living with wildlife, fire mitigation and defensible space, and fire-resistant landscaping. All residents residing in the RCVFD service area are encouraged to attend.
“Preparedness Day is a call to action for residents living in wildfire areas to become a Firewise Community,” said organizer Louise Creager. “Many volunteer RCVFD firefighters and other experts will be there to meet residents and share their knowledge and advice.”
The goal of a Firewise Community is to encourage individuals to learn about and take responsibility for wildfire prevention and mitigation, and thus reduce the loss of life and property.
The RCVFD is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation that is supported solely through donations. This all-volunteer department depends on community involvement, engagement and financial support.
