The CSU softball team went 39-12 this season and got into the NCAA Softball Tournament. This tournament works a lot like that basketball tournament that happens in March that you get sued if you use the name of (should the softball tournament be called May Madness?). They ranked 25th in the nation going into that tournament by USA Today/National Fastpitch Association’s Top 25.
The Club baseball team went 24-12 and went to the Mid-America Tournament. The Club team also scored 321 runs, which bested every team in the league by an astounding 67 runs. The next closest team in the Rams’ conference was CU, which scored a comparatively paltry 154 runs.
Help NFN Grow
If you want to watch a CSU team play well, look no further. If the 3-9 football team has you feeling down? Come watch the softball team put up 10+ runs, as they did 10 times this season.
The 12-20 basketball team with lots of internal turmoil driving you nuts? Come watch the Club baseball team crank dingers with impunity.
The Softball Team
This team has got some stars. Jessica Jarecki won Mountain West pitcher of the week three times this year. Tara Shadowen, Amber Nelson, Ashley Ruiz, Makenzie Miller, and Corina Gamboa all hit for higher slugging percentages than Nolan Arenado currently is for the Rockies. All three of Taylor Gilmore, Bridgette Hutton and Jarecki have sub-2.7 Earned Run Averages. The team led the Mountain West in batting average, runs and slugging percentage.
Unfortunately, the Rams lost to Auburn in the first round of the tournament. But, of the women mentioned above, the Rams will only be losing Nelson and Hutton, so expect the fireworks to continue in the upcoming season.
The Club Baseball Team
Now this team put up an absurd, offensive display, but struggled to stop other teams from scoring. That showed true in their loss to Iowa, who went on to the NCBA World Series with a 7-4 win on May 12th.
That doesn’t mean that the club team can’t come back and compete next year though. There will certainly be some balls lofted far over fences next season.
