On Aug. 16, our community is invited to come together to honor a very special lady who gave so much to make this library the success it is today. Wellington Public Library Director Gene Ann Trant passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Feb. 6. For 11 years, the Wellington Public Library grew and evolved into an outstanding educational and informational center under her guidance. She shared her love of books with all ages and made the library a gathering place in the community.
Not a day goes by that we don’t think about her here at the library and we look forward to honoring her on Aug. 16. At 5 p.m. we will have a ceremony in the library to dedicate a plaque donated by her family. Punch and cookies will be served. At 6 p.m. will be the flag pole dedication in front of the library.
Help NFN Grow
The flag pole was donated by the Elks Lodge #804 of Fort Collins and Town Attorney Brad March. Eagle Scout Will Daknis with Troop 30 of Fort Collins raised money for the painting, rigging, outdoor plaque and refreshments for the ceremony. The Town of Wellington donated the concrete and labor for setting the flagpole and the lighting of the flagpole. It should be a very special day and we would love to have everyone come to honor this very special lady. An American flag flying over the library would be something that Gene Ann would have wanted to have left as a memorial.
Also in honor of Gene Ann, all fines paid during the month of August will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
We will finish our Summer Reading Program on Aug. 16, so make sure to have your reading logs turned in for the grand prize drawings to be held Aug. 19. Early locker choice passes will be handed out Aug. 12 until Aug. 14. If your Wellington Middle School student has turned in his or her early locker choice form but will not be able to pick up his or her pass; don’t worry, I will be over there the day of locker choice to verify them on our list.
The Larimer County Search and Rescue will be at the library Wednesday Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m. We invite you to come learn more about this service and how to stay safe while enjoying the great outdoors.
August Storytimes are the 13th and the 27th at 11:00 a.m. On Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 1 to 3 p.m., we will have our first annual Parent Party. All parents are invited to come and enjoy some quiet time at the library.
