Wellington receives Rural Economic Development Initiative grant

The town of Wellington is proud to report the receipt of a $20,000 Rural Economic Development Initiative grant for a full community assessment.

“This will supplement our DCI report in that it will look at Wellington as a whole,” Alisa Darrow, assistant town administrator said. “The aim of the grant is to locate hidden strengths, under utilized resources, look at a comprehensive strategy and design a collaborative strategy to engage businesses, the Chamber and the Main Street Program.”

Mayor Jack Brinkhoff received notification of the grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs on Feb. 3.

Darrow immediately contacted DOLA regional manager Don Sandoval to begin the process of signing the contract. A first step will be meeting with the Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce and the Wellington Colorado Main Street Program to create a roadmap for moving forward. “This is going to be a real team effort,” Darrow said. “We’ll begin by creating a list of firms to participate in the assessment and development plan.”
