The Livermore Elementary School parent-teacher organization put their heads together with Mountain School Principal, Matt Marietta, and came up with a unique fundraiser. They auctioned off an opportunity to be “principal for a day” at Livermore Elementary School during the annual Livermore Pie Auction.
Fourth grader Brayden Broda, age 9, served as principal during the third week of October and siblings Claire and Liam Golden shared the duties in the final week of the month. Claire, 9, is a fourth grader and Liam, 7, is in the second grade.
Liam sported a slightly-too-big-for-him gray pinstriped suit, white shirt and red tie and both principals wore identifying signs around their necks. Liam explained that his older brother had worn the suit for his first communion. Brayden was back to regular kid clothes on this day.
As principal, Brayden observed recess, lunched with the teachers and made sure his teacher, Mr. Gauthier, had homework for the night. He helped kindergarteners and first graders with their reading and introduced a guest speaker during his day in charge of the school.
Claire and Liam had already placed the school’s lunch order early in their day as principals. Claire was looking forward to assigning Mr. Gauthier to write supercalafrasticexpaladocius one hundred times in his “best cursive.”
Marietta explained that funds raised will go into the PTO general fund to be used for enrichment, field trips, software, technology and reading programs. “We have incredibly supportive and involved parents,” he said. “I’m grateful.”
