Residents or businesses with large loads of cardboard can now drop them for free inside the hard-to-recycle yard at the City’s Timberline Recycling Center. This option will be faster and less cumbersome for customers, who can now deposit entire loads of flattened cardboard directly into an open-topped container.

The City will waive the $5 gate fee on the west side of the center at 1903 S. Timberline Road for cardboard-only or paint-only loads.

The new cardboard recycling system will help commercial customers who have larger amounts of cardboard from job sites and businesses, said Susie Gordon, Environmental Program Manager with the City’s Environmental Services department. Additionally, baled cardboard is a better, more efficient way to process cardboard, which will help save the City money on handling costs, Gordon said.

Residents and businesses can also continue to use the existing, smaller cardboard bin on the free everyday recycling yard on the east side of the recycling center.

The hard-to-recycle yard is open Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during winter hours (through March 31). Residents can use the traditional recycling drop-off site for plastic film, cans/bottles and paper seven days a week, 365 days a year during daylight hours.

For more information, go to www.fcgov.com/recycling. The City is also seeking public feedback on use of the hard-to-recycle materials yard on the website to ascertain levels of customer satisfaction and explore new opportunities for recycling at the TRC
