Gail Meisner of Wellington recognized for Farmers Union membership recruitment

Wellington resident and Rocky Mountain Farmers Union member Gail Meisner won an award for Farmers Union membership recruitment at National Farmers Union’s 110th Anniversary in Omaha, Neb. Meisner was among the more than 500 people who attended NFU’s 110th Anniversary Convention.

“Members like Gail are critical to the success and growth of Farmers Union,” said Rocky Mountain Farmers Union President Kent Peppler. “Her hard work and dedication ensure that we will be able to advocate for family farmers for generations to come.”

The 2012 convention brought together Farmers Union members from across the country and featured discussions on the 2012 Farm Bill, dairy policy, the Market-Driven Inventory System (MDIS), challenges that beginning farmers face, farm safety, and renewable energy. Delegation from each state Farmers Union organization helped shape the direction of the national family farm organization through policy development.

“Convention is such a critical time for Farmers Union, because it is where our grassroots policy is determined,” said NFU President Roger Johnson. “That is why it is so critical that we have active members like Gail who are able to bring in new members to ensure that family farmers everywhere have a voice both in their state and in Washington, D.C.”

National Farmers Union has been working since 1902 to protect and enhance the economic well-being and quality of life for farmers, ranchers and rural communities through advocating grassroots-driven policy positions adopted by its membership.
