Larimer County Natural Resources Nature Notes Club is accepting new members throughout the spring. You can join current members already journaling in the style of John Muir and Aldo Leopold with Volunteer Naturalist Lisa.
The club will have several outings throughout the county’s open spaces system, allowing members to immerse themselves in the full range and scope of what the open spaces have to offer. Club members will receive basic instruction on sketching, ecology, geology, wildlife and other natural sciences to enhance the experience. • March 28, 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. “Spring in to Project Budburst” Join Naturalist Lisa at the Bison Visitor Center, located near Carter Lake in Loveland at 1800 S. County Rd 31, for this introduction to Project Budburst, a citizen-science project focused on observing nature as the seasons change, in your own backyard. Bring a journal and something to write with, as well as any other art supplies you prefer to work with.
• April 11, 12 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. “It’s All Related: Plant Families, Part 1” Discover common plant families of Colorado, and that knowing how plants are related can make identifying them a breeze! You’ll even get to make your own plant ID key card in this program at the Bison Visitor Center, located near Carter Lake in Loveland at 1800 S. County Rd 31. Bring a journal and something to write with, as well as any other art supplies you prefer to work with.
• April 25, 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. “Devil’s Backbone: Millions of Years in the Making” Join Naturalist Ed as he takes a walk through millions of years of geologic history visible in and near Devil’s Backbone Open Space, located just west of Loveland off Hwy 34.Geology. Bring a journal and something to write with, as well as any other art supplies you prefer to work with.
• May 9, 12 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. “It’s All Related: Plant Families, Part 2” Meet at Devil’s Backbone Open Space, located just west of Loveland, off of Hwy 34, for Part 2 of learning how to identify common plant families of the Colorado foothills. Bring a journal and something to write with, as well as any other art supplies you prefer to work with.
• May 23, 12p.m. – 3 p.m. “Art in the Field” Join Naturalist Nancy for a program on basic art techniques, and how to take your artistic talent from the classroom to the field. Meet at the Bison Visitor Center, located near Carter Lake in Loveland at 1800 S. County Rd 31.
