(Denver) — March 2, 2018 — The Colorado Photographic Arts Center (CPAC) is pleased to announce that Hamidah Glasgow, Executive Director and Curator at The Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, has been awarded the 2018 Hal Gould Vision in Photography Award. This award is given to individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions in the Western Region to raising awareness, value, and appreciation of the photographic arts. The award will be presented to Glasgow at CPAC’s 7th annual Hal Gould Award Dinner & Auction on April 12, 2018.

About Hamidah Glasgow
As Executive Director and Curator at The Center for Fine Art Photography since 2009, Glasgow has presented more than 180 exhibitions featuring emerging and established photographic artists from around the world. Along the way, she has helped hundreds of artists develop their careers and introduce their work to new audiences in Colorado and beyond. Glasgow is also a co-founder of the Strange Fire Collective, an organization dedicated to photo-based work that engages with current social and political forces, highlighting the work of women, people of color, and queer and trans artists, writers, and curators. Glasgow’s contribution to photography has also included numerous curatorial projects, national portfolio reviews including FotoFest, Photolucida, Center and many others, contributions to publications and online magazines, and the co-hosting of regional conferences.
From 2007-2009, Glasgow served on the Colorado Photographic Arts Center’s Board of Directors as Board Chair and member. She holds a master’s degree in Humanities with an emphasis in Visual Studies and a Graduate Certificate in Women and Gender Studies from the University of Colorado Denver and a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from California State University.

The Hal Gould Vision in Photography Award was established in 2013 in honor of Hal Gould, a well-known champion of photography in the Western region who inspired countless artists and visitors to his legendary Camera Obscura Gallery in Denver. He was also a gifted artist himself, a commercial photographer, and a co-founder of CPAC.
