The Canyon Lakes Ranger District of the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland is proposing restoration work along the Lower Skin Gulch stream that was impacted by the High Park Fire in 2012 and the September 2013 flood. Skin Gulch has a drainage area of almost 6-square miles and the confluence of the drainage way is located along Stove Prairie Road, about 1⁄2 mile south of Colorado 14.
The Skin Gulch stream corridor has been altered by an increase in sediment, and this proposed restoration work would benefit the Lower Skin Gulch along Stove Prairie Road, resulting in a better functioning stream.
Details of this proposal are online at www.fs.fed.us/nepa. Project goals include improving stream function and reducing sedimentation. This proposed work would disturb less than one acre and could be done in a variety of ways, including sediment management tools, stream bank stabilization and others. The Forest Service may work with partners to complete this proposed project.
This proposal is being analyzed under a restoration Categorical Exclusion and it is currently in the public scoping phase. Because it is being analyzed using a CE, it is not appealable or objectionable.
