Looking for a crash course in canine orthopedics? This summer, Colorado State University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital will host a free continuing education course in general diagnostics and lameness in dogs.
The three-credit course, Canine Orthopedics in a Nutshell, will include two sessions and is open to all veterinarians. Participants must attend both sessions to receive continuing education credit.
The first session, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Aug. 11, will address diagnostic issues and hind-limb lameness, including:
• Tips and tricks in lameness diagnosis
• Overview of diagnostic tools
• Soft tissue injuries
• Stifle disease: cruciate disease and patellar luxation
• Hip disease: dysplasia
• Tarsus: ligament injuries, immune-mediated polyarthritis and achilles tendinopathy
The second session, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 15, will address forelimb lameness, including:
• Shoulder disease: osteochondritis dissecans and tendinopathies
• Elbow disease: dysplasia
• Carpus: carpal hyperextension and flexor carpi ulnaris tendinopathy
Classes will be held at the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital, 300 W. Drake Road in Fort Collins. Dinner will be provided at 6:30 p.m., followed by class sessions.
