The Colorado Department of Transportation continues to move forward on a highway improvement project on the southbound lanes of I-25 north of State Highway 14 from mile marker (MM) 269 to MM 282 near the Wyoming state line.
“We want to remind motorists, including truckers, that 15 minute delays are possible as part of the project,” said Project Engineer Ben Rowles. “Although the delays are a temporary inconvenience, the project will help us extend the life of the interstate and create a much smoother ride for travelers.”
Work on the project includes replacing slabs of concrete, using a process called diamond grinding to smooth out panels that will not be replaced, and replacing guardrail in some areas as necessary.
“To help minimize the impacts of the projects to motorists, we have reduced our work zone closures from three miles to two miles or less when possible,” added Rowles. “This will help keep traffic continually moving.”
Crews work Mondays through Fridays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and 24/7 lane closures will occur at various locations through September on southbound I-25 between State Highway 14 and Owl Canyon (mile markers 281.5 to 270).
Motorists are encouraged to build in extra travel time if driving through the project, and are urged to drive Slow for the Cone Zone!
Scott Contracting is the contractor for this $2.3 million project, which is on schedule for completion in October 2013.
