U.S. Forest Service seeking volunteers to help visitors in Fort Collins

The U.S. Forest Service is seeking outgoing people who are self-starters for volunteer visitor services positions at the Fort Collins visitor center this winter and spring.

The Canyon Lakes Ranger District manages approximately 650,000 acres of the National Forest System lands in Larimer County. Most winter visitors to the Fort Collins office seek information about winter recreation and summer vacation planning.

Volunteers would answer phones and greet walk-in visitors during half-day shifts once a week, weekdays from 12:30 to 5 p.m., through April. Volunteer work is self-directed, and volunteers will close the visitor center on their own each evening. There is also need for on-call visitor center volunteers to fill in staffing scheduling gaps. Winter office visitation is at a much slower pace than during the summer, allowing a more relaxed experience for both visitors and volunteers, along with the opportunity to learn about our National Forests.

Knowledge of Roosevelt National Forest and Canyon Lakes Ranger District recreation activities and locations is helpful, but not required. An orientation session is scheduled for late January. If you would like more information about the position, or you would like to sign up for the program, please contact Mary Bollinger at [email protected] or call 970-295-6702.

Volunteers provide a great service to the Canyon Lakes Ranger District and these positions will help enhance the overall visitor experience.
