James Carlin Hathaway, DVM, of Livermore, passed away August 14, 2011. He was born May 9, 1962 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Jim graduated from Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He was owner of Granite Canyon Veterinary Surgical Services, specializing in orthopedic surgery and was and artist in all surgical elements. His home-based practice covered Colorado and Wyoming. He and his family have a menagerie of pets and was known to take in stray or abandoned animals that crossed their paths.
Jim fulfilled his dream by becoming a licensed pilot and loved to fly.
He was a loving, sensitive and compassionate person, deeply devoted to his family. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all the animals that were fortunate enough to be treated by him.
Jim is survived by his wife, soul mate and business partner, Sandra; daughters, Briannon and Jamie; son Trevor; parents Dr. James A. and Marilyn Hathaway; sister Michele (Dan) Hathaway Tuton and family; brother, Dr. Peter (Jennifer) Hathaway and family.
A celebration of his life took place Sept. 10 at the family’s home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with Jim’s medical expenses.
