Joe Leroy Shockley passed away Aug. 8, 2011 at the Goshen Care Center Alzheimer’s unit in Torrington, Wyoming.
Joe was born on July 24, 1938 in Laramie the son of Joe and Dorothy Shockley. He spent most of his life as a truck driver and livestock hauler. He married, had two children and later divorced. Joe loved living the small town life in Yoder, Wyo. and never knew a stranger. He was fun loving and had an ornery side, but everyone who knew him found him a joy to be around.
He enjoyed collecting rocks and loved gardening, especially growing red roses. Joe also found great enjoyment watching the Southeast High School Cyclones play football.
He always had his faithful companion dog, “Dolly,” at his side.
He is survived by his son, Randy (Kathy) Shockley, of Fort Collins; his daughter, Cheryl (Gary) Alps of Yoder; granddaughter Jody Severs of Loveland; grandson, Cody Alps of Yoder; one brother, two sisters and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at a later date. Colyer Funeral Home assisted the family with cremation arrangements. Memorial contributions can be made to “Shockley Memorials” c/o Cheryl Alps, 5223 Rd 37, Yoder, WY 82244.
