John Henry “Johnny” Knaack, born Aug. 7, 1942 in St. James, Minn., passed away Nov. 12 from cancer, likely related to the effects of Agent Orange exposure.
Johnny married Ruth Helen Lunz, also from St. James, Minn., on Dec. 18, 1962. They had one son. At the age of 17, Johnny enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. During his 21-year career as a proud Marine, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam.
After retiring from the service and settling in Wellington, Johnny worked in the agricultural field for many years and was a highly dedicated and valued member of Zion Lutheran Church, from where he will be greatly missed.
Johnny was proceeded in death by his parents, Fred and Josephine Knaack, and a brother, Albert Eugene Knaack. Johnny is survived by his wife, Ruth; son, John; daughter-in-law, Linda; and two grandchildren, Sara “Bug,” and John William “Monkey,” who were his greatest joys.
A graveside military service was held on Nov. 17 at the Wellington Highland Cemetery with a reception that followed at Zion Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Zion Lutheran Church, PO Box 417, Wellington, CO 80549.
