3J, Inc., a Wellington-based machine shop that manufactures everything from flanges to horseshoes, has become the first and only Colorado machine shop to earn 6A certification from the American Petroleum Institute.
It took two years for the family owned company to earn the coveted designation which approves them for the manufacture of connectors and other equipment for the oil well industry.
Justin Robinson, co-owner and spokesperson for the company, works with his father, Jeff, and brother Jeremy. Jeff has years of experience in mechanics and manufacturing, Jeremy came from a manufacturing company in Boulder, and Justin earned a degree in business from Colorado State University. Together they founded the company in Fort Collins in 2006 and moved to the industrial area north of Wellington in 2009.
“A large part of our business is out of state, “ Justin said. “We do defense contracting and ship our products to both coasts, Texas and South Dakota.”
